Bob doesn't say this but you need to use a little paint thinner to thin the alizarin crimson for the base (wet) coat. Just don't thin it too much, like I did, or you won't get the colors mixed on the pallet right.

Alizarin crimson is only used for the wet base and mixed a little with van dyke brown. You'll use a lot of van dyke brown, and moderate amounts of Indian yellow, yellow ochre, dark sienna, and a little permanent red.
