Lost Lake

Steevensi 12 Nov 2018

I did this picture when I had a free afternoon just to practice mountains, trees, etc. I did not follow any episode. It was just inspiration.

I was really surprised when I found out my painting looks like this one from Bob!

I guess great minds thinks alike. hahaha

Pretty fantastic painting for a "practice piece". 😉

How do you get your highlights on the bushes so perfect?

First time I see the word perfect associated with one on my paintings! Thanks.

First thing I would say is to load the brush correctly.
If you can find an episode where he explains it slowly, it helps.

Second thing would be to watch carefully how Bob create his bushes. He almost always use the same pattern. He starts with the upper most part of the bushes and then he hit 2 or 3 strikes on a side and them move to the other.
Then, he complete it by painting the lowest part of it and finish by giving it the "angle" he wants it to lean into. If that make sense?

Practice DOES pay off! I specially like the opening created by the trees, the water and the serene trees.
