Pastel Seascape

ironsoap 03 Dec 2018

Had a better time with this one than the last couple. As usual I struggled a bit when it came to using the knife (in this case on the beach area). Although, I did figure out something I'd been doing wrong with my knife application (that "little roll of paint" needs to be at least big enough to allow it to touch the canvas without the knife scraping as well), which was pretty exciting. And in the end I was able to recover by adding extra vegetation.

I do wish the whites on the waves were a bit brighter. And I wish the clouds had been layered a bit more to my liking, but I thought they turned out pretty well all things considered. I'm really enjoying those clouds. I think they're my favorite thing to paint at this point. Although I did have a lot of fun with the wave as well. Overall this was a very enjoyable painting and I'm looking forward to more seascapes.

Beautiful colors! I really like this painting.

Ironsoap, very nice foreground. Dunes are quite realistic for Galveston area! I like it. You did great job!

Do you also think something wrong with the layers of the clouds? I just posted my version and had the same comment about the clouds.

I love the color of the sea! Very beautiful.

This is beautiful! Your clouds are gorgeous and I love all the colors. The crash of your ocean wave looks great. What puts it all together in a wonderful package is the sand area. Well done!
