My first black canvas painting. I really like the way the colours show. The sky worked well and had more fun playing with water movement. I find the fan brush is so versatile, I love using it.
Thanks Tom. I have been looking at the spray on varnishes and my first painting is now around 10 weeks old so they should all start to be dry enough soon. Do they work well? Or should I go use the paint on versions?
This one is on my list to try as well
Rah, Windsor & Newton makes a clear gloss varnish that is very good and I use myself.
OK - so will look at their varnishes. I already use their linseed oil, thanks!
@rah: I never used the spray varnish. The paint on version was my first try and they worked fine for me. Regarding drying time: there are a lot of different opinions on that. I personally let my paintings 9+ months dry before I give them varnish.
But I am primarily a watercolor guy, I do not have a huge oil knowledge.
Hi Tom, I will do some research and make sure I leave them for long enough. Don't want to rush things and cause issues later. Thanks again for the advice ;)

In case it is darkening (oils tend to darken a bit after they fully dry) I would suggest to give it a coat of varnish. I always do this with my oil paintings (after sufficient drying time), it pays especially for those done on a black canvas.
Good luck:)
