My biweekly Bob Ross recreation. Recently I painted one of the most popular scenes from the whole series, this time, it seems to be the opposite. This episode doesn't seem to have a lot of fans. It is rather complex (at least for a beginner with oils like me) and maybe some people don#t like the oval. But you could skip the same easily. Else I think this is a typical Bob Ross scene which the people normally really like. Thus I was wondering that there are only 4 recreations.
I learned a lot of things here. Thanks to lightsnow who recommended to go with a paper towel over the mountain base color. This is really a good int and makes it much easier for me to create the highlights. I also learned, that this canvas is too small for this painting with the whole details. I used a Low budget (I ran out of canvases, normally I use good quality) in 30 x 40 cm (I always use this size for ovals as I have a good template to create the shape for this size).
Furthermore my number 3 fanbrush needs to be exchanged, it doesn't work any more, seems I used it too often.
Overall this took me about 2 1/2 hours. I think some parts are quite okay, whereas others still need a lot of practice.
Wow. The details are incredible.
Nice job on this one Tom
Great job Tom! Very nice landscape you created! You finally conquered that mountain! It looks great!
Thank you everyone for your feedback. @flippergirl: thanks for the hint regarding the fan brush. I will try that. @Sunnylady: thanks, I tried the suggestion from lightsnow regarding mountains (see his article) and it worked much better.

Very nice! Maybe the subtle autumn colors are not as appealing to people? Your detail work makes those duller colors more defined and alive. Also 30 x 40cm is crazy small for this scene LOL. I always do complex scenes like this on 18 x 24 inches. Regarding your brush - I am also no expert and am new to oils as well - but my 3 and 6 were seeming a bit frayed even though I am meticulous about cleaning and conditioning. I actually trimmed off the tips a little bit with scissors to clean them up and they do work better.
