Evening at the Falls

Tom0779 25 Sep 2021

My anniversary oil painting number 25. A very dark scene, thus I don’t see all the mistakes I made πŸ˜‚
Actually I have to say a big thanks to member dracula, he told me to try Lukas 1862 brand to get firm colors. This works perfectly and I would recommend this brand to anyone who searches a real firm paint. Yet I only have white but may replace all colors as soon as I need them.
Canvas size is 40 x 50 cm. Only 1 episode left to complete season 26.

Beautiful! Love everything about it! The falls are beautiful and so are all the details!

Wow Tom, I love falls and this is among the best I've seen. That thick white really puts a different spin on it. The background is equally beautiful (very dracula) and I'm so glad you didn't make your stones look like car tyres. A gorgeous painting, very jealous!

Many thanks paintingblondie & TLP. Really glad you like it. @TLP: actually this white seems to work so well for me, maybe others need a different one. No need to be jealous, I fiddled a lot around, scraped off things here and there. I often did stones with the filbert so I think I know the troubles of this procedure πŸ˜€

Nice work Tom. This particular piece was one of my first oils I did and it remains one of my favorites. I'll give you a suggestion, on the mist right below the falls try and blend out the edges a little more. Blender brush works fantastic. It'll just give it a slightly more natural look (in my opinion).

Quite nice! I love the sky with just enough glow and highlighting on those background trees. Good depth created.

I love dark paintings and this is wonderful. The moonlight shining through the trees and on the river really works well in my opinion.

Thanks everyone! @mgiese84: you are right, that part bothers me too. It seems my blender brush got a bit stiff, thus it does not work any more. Maybe I cleaned it wrong, only with paint thinner.

Hmm odd because that's usually all I do to clean my brush too

I corrected the misty part below the waterfall, added a close up. I used a very old budget goat hair brush which worked very good. I like this part more and thanks to mgiese84 for the hint.

Tom whatever you do, don't throw that brush away. It might not not blend right for you but I can see great potential for amazing looking fountains! and other uses as well.

Well actually I have an original Bob Ross blender brush, but this got stiff over the time. I have read a thread in the forum which tells to clean it with baby oil. I will try this once I got one. For this correction I used a 1 inch goat hair brush which I bought when I started painting (it was a set of 3 brushes in different size) watercolors. But the quality wasn’t good. For this kind of work it fits perfectly and the size is very handy.
