Greetings and salutations!
On my to do list of things to work on, I am looking to hammer out why my snow doesn't break. One thing I want to explore is a little trick that someone here, and my apologies if I don't recall who you are, mentioned that they put their titanium white on some cardboard or the back of a notebook for about a half hour or so. Then they use that.
I am using Winton student grade oils and it is worth a shot. Throw them on some card board as I start getting set up and then see what the scoop is come game time. The issue I am having is the moment of contact; it deposits so much paint that it leaves a glob of paint that looks like icing. It even has peaks. Then trying to drag it down the mountain seems to just spread it. I promise you I am trying to barely touch that canvas. I even bought a sep #10 knife at the art store that weighs a lot less. Nothing gets it to break.
Which brings me to something I never can get the answer to. We never get to see the angle the knife is when it touches and goes down the canvas. Is the knife parallel to the canvas? On an angle? Does it start parallel and then angle as it goes down the mountain? The opposite?
Your help is greatly appreciated.
