Moonlight on black paper

Tom0779 26 May 2020

I painted this last year, inspired by some instruction I found. I can’t remember where exactly. It’s the only watercolor painting I did on black paper. The main difference is that you need to mix the paints with white gouache.

Very nice painting Tom!

Quite a striking effect! SUPER!

I agree Voy, I look at this moon at the plain black color and cannot take my eyes of it. Then everything else comes into the sight starting at highlighted mountains. I think this striking contrast takes the attention and holds it a while before looking at the other parts of the painting.

Thanks Sunnylady & Voy Kay. Its indeed a nice effect you can create. As far as I can remember it wasn´t very complex, of course one can create a more detailed scene. But it was a nice idea I found.

This work is reminiscent of Japanese painting. I think it's a great atmosphere and a different side from your usual work.
Well done!

Thanks Jin, unfortunately due to less time I could not paint a lot watercolors recently. Maybe during next winter time I got some more options to create a few more.
