Houses on a hill

Tom0779 17 Aug 2020

This is a good exercise for practicing perspective. I found this idea in YouTube. This is a good practicing object to learn perspective of buildings and it is relatively easy to to. All you need is a "watercolor pencil" (I don't know the exact English word for it) and a brush to soften the edges with water and do the shadows. All works with two vanishing points on a horizontal line below the hill.

Watercolor pencil! Got it. I have them. I will give them one more try. I was not lucky at all with them.

I added a picture with the material I used. In watercolor it really pays to use good quality, even the paper is not cotton here, but this one is good. The pencil is from Faber Castell, which is known as a High quality brand. It isn't very cheap, but it works fine.

Thanks for the tips and for the instruments used. My pencils are very old. I was thinking that they dried even more than they originally were. I could not dilute edges or I guess it is called wash. I tried to follow recommendations of some online guy. But those pencils were not doing it right.

Tom, thanks a lot for showing all these wonderful things and sharing about your tools!

You’re welcome. Maybe you give watercolors or the pencil a try. Would be happy to see the results.

The perspective is well done.
I like monochromatic works like this.

Thank you Jin. I plan to do other works like this.
