Original Creation

Village by the sea

Tom0779 27 Aug 2020

This is A3 format good quality watercolor paper. Idea is from YouTube, according to the information it has been painted from a photo made in Corsica. This one needs a lot of drawing. One of my favorite watercolors is 'transparent orange' (geman: Lasurorange) from Schmincke. I love to paint roofs with this color. I hope it is not too bright. Usually my paintings are quiet regarding the color but here I couldn't resist to use it :)
This is quite a challenge and if you plan to paint something like this it will lastyou some time.

Absolutely beautiful painting, Tom!
Orange roofs tell us what is composition center and add such a bright mood to the painting! It catches the eye as contrast well with blues.

Tom, I know you like loose style in water colors.
but this is something out of this planet i think...I have never imagined that this is possible with watercolors....

Thanks Sunnylady. Well that it is possible to paint with watercolors the way you provided in the attachment was also new for me. I think oils would fit that style of painting more. Like you said, I prefer very loose paintings with them and I still feel my paintings are far from being loose. But I am still learning. I woul like to try a cityscape, maybe by night. Not sure if I can do it.

I think you are right about the style from that Artist. Looks like oils, thus breaks the mind :)

All artist say that to loosen up - stop using small brushes. I cannot accept it yet... may be one day I will...

To me it looks like you are on the right path to loosen up.

I am using bigger brushes, but also I think you can get loose with the small ones, e.g. by just pulling the liner brush very fast in dry strokes and not exactly finishing it. this is so tough for me :) For some balconies I was able to be more loose, but for some not...

Tom, thanks! I have seen this method in one recent seascape video where the guy was just hitting convas with bulb of the paint on the liner brush (oil painting) and it looked like sparkles on the water. it was really cool!

It’s always interesting to learn new things. I still don’t have the courage to paint an urban scene. But definitely the next step for me. I see this one as a preparation for it.

Good luck and I am sure your urban scene will be awesome!
