Original Creation

Snowy mountain road (after Bill Alexander)

Tom0779 05 Nov 2020

I recently sorted my paintings done so far and came across some which might be worth to share them. I painted this 1 year ago with acrylics on 30 x 40 cm sized acrylics paper.
It was done after an instruction video from Bill Alexander and it was one of the first mountains I ever did.

This is a beauty Tom! For a first, those mountains are really top!! ๐Ÿ‘

What do you prefer as a tutor, Bill of Bob?

Tom0779 Multi-Medium-Talent

Well Voy, thank you for your comment. I am not totally sure if they were the very first mountains I ever did, but this was at least under the first three paintings with mountains I ever produced. But I can't really remember for sure.
Personally I clearly prefer Bob. This is due to several reasons. I like his show since I saw it first (around 15 + years ago - there is one German station which sends it since 2001 and that made it available for us in Austria too) because of his calm mood and voice. But also I prefer his paintings overall.
I think also he explains things more detailed than Bill. But this is just my subjective opinion and I am aware about the fact that without Bill there probably wouldn't have been a TV series with Bob...
On the other hand, today I mostly watch Bob after an exhausting day to relax, I will for sure paint his scenes again, but not yet. Same is true for Bill.

Wonderful reply Tom!

Bill has fascinating paintings on sometimes bigger canvasses but I miss the better explanations Bob gives and the superior camera work (zooming etc...).
I must say I am no fan of Bob's work before season 15 because only since then , his paintings got a lot more interesting and specially he was for more comfortable explaining things!

Till next one Tom, have a great day!!

Tom, I am impressed by your mountain!

Goodness Tom! What a stunning mountain! Certainly doesn't look like an early mountain, one would think you had painted hundreds.

Awesome mountain! I also sometimes just like to watch Bobs show to relax. When I was younger, PBS would have his show on around 12am - 2am. There were many times that I would watch him when I was suffering from insomnia and his voice would put me right to sleep. I often wondered if the local station scheduled their programming to help people relax and go to sleep.

Watching Bob to help with insomnia is actually what finally motivated me to try to paint. I used to turn him on to fall asleep to for years. Then when I hurt my back and was stuck at home because of Covid, I finally decided to actually try to paint. Itโ€™s funny now because when I canโ€™t sleep and I put BR on, it almost never helps because Iโ€™m paying too much attention to how to actually paint versus how to sleep with his soothing voice.

Ahaha, Doggymommee I somehow manage to fall asleep but when that music from the final happen I wake up. :)

@Voy: Thanks for starting the discussion. I just wanted to add, that I clearly prefer Bobs trees and the foliage. In my opinion Bill Alexander was a fantastic painter, but I have never been a big fan of his trees.
And you mentioned it. The camera work on his show isn't the best. If you scroll down in my paintings you might find a second one I published after his work (called here deserted farm). This was really a challenge to follow as the camera was always positioned at the side and never could show a good close up from the perspective. That was a bit a pity, as this was one of my favorite episodes from him.

@Sunnylady: Thanks a lot for your feedback. And yes it happens to me too: I fall asleep, but the music at the end wakes me up again :D I wished the had cut it of on YouTube - they did with the Bill Alexander episodes. There is no music.

@doggymommee8301: Thanks for you comment, I am happy you like the mountain. For me it was a similar story. I have always been interested in art, especially in painting and drawing. But without Bob I would never have thought that I will start to do it. But despite I have now discovered other techniques and I currently don't create a lot of Ross-type paintings I still watch the show to just relax, e.g. after an exhausting work day.

@Lilikins: Thanks for your feedback and for the insight in how you got in touch with Bob. I read an article some time ago, where it was stated, that most of the people watching don't follow the paintings and they don't plan to ever pick up a brush. They just want to listen to his voice and chill. And I think this is ok too.

I remember an episode where Bob mentioned a letter he got from a lady who said she watched him to take her afternoon nap because he relaxed her so much. He said he really liked that he was able to help her sleep.

In fact Heather, I can't watch any of his episodes right after lunch or I fall asleep! ๐Ÿ˜‚
