Picture Distortion

Does anyone know what causes or how to eliminate distortion when uploading pictures? I can't figure out what's causing it, it only happens on this site, nowhere else. I wonder if there's some technical requirement for uploading pics that I might not be aware of?

Thank you Felix, it doesn't happen all the time so its probably something I'm doing.
Can't seem to figure out how to add an image here. I click the image icon below and some code comes up.

you can just upload your picture as a normal painting, I'll take a look and will let you know when you can remove it again

Felix Thank you, its on my last upload, mountain by the sea. The sky area is feint so you cant see it so much, but its right there in the sand area, vertical lines.

Ahh, that.

It's a very interesting effect called Moiré Pattern. You can read more about it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moir%C3%A9_pattern

Basically what I believe is happening is that the structure of the canvas is interfering with the pixels on the screen, creating this pattern.
I'll look into it, maybe I can find out how other websites are handling this

I thought it was something to do with photography or how the upload performs. I saw my first green sky a few weeks ago, and I made my hubby drive all the way around the one way system again so I could take a picture. It didn't pick the green up at all. With the exception of the aurora, green skies seem to be quite rare, even more rare in photos as my friend google told me its difficult to capture them for technical reasons. Technical stuff is way over my head. Anyway, thank you, it might be just something simple, but please don't go to a lot of trouble.

I see this a lot, i thought it was perhaps light conditions or something to do with the camera

tel Yes I thought that too, I even thought it could be the paint being wet affecting the lighting coz my pics often look washed out and my colours are rarely true. Not that it matters, I'm no rembrandt🤣

If I resize my photo to evenly divisible dimensions (e.g. 800px x 600px) there is no Moire effect. I assume this is related to whatever resizing routine the uploader performs. This won't help if the Moire pattern is "baked in" to the photograph itself, which can happen for a variety of reasons (e.g. angle, lighting, resolution, etc.). For this, I believe there is a formula people use to add a counter-balancing Gaussian blur that negates the Moire pattern. I've had limited results with it in the past. I wouldn't be surprised if newer versions of Photoshop can just remove Moire effects directly.
