Cinema.

Do people still go to the cinema?....The Huge TV sets most of us have in our homes with soundbars and whatever else kinda makes a visit to the cinema a bit redundant doesn't it?
The last couple times i have been there were probably a dozen people in who seemed more interested in there phones and the dustbin sized popcorn they were rustling around in!....Pah!!! 😒

I used to enjoy going to the movies. Now I definitely will stay home to watch them. It’s more convenient and cheaper to boot. I haven’t been to a movie theater in 4 years. Don’t miss the experience.

I love mostly old movies so do not go to the cinema that much, but I go a few times a year, and sometimes it is great. The last film I saw at the cinema was The Brutalist, which was worth seeing on the silver screen because of how it was filmed.

I remember reading good things about the brutalist, i will catch it on my "dodgy" firestick

I've only been to the cinema once since the pandemic.

There is just no need to any more. In the past you had to wait six months to a year after a movie was released in cinemas if you wanted to watch it any other way. These days, a lot of movies are available on streaming services either simultaneously with, or just after, their cinema release.

tel

Some would argue that it's about the cinema experience but this can be awful depending on the behaviours of other patrons.
Why some people are happy to pay £!0-£12 to mess around and play on phones is beyond my comprehension, i used to love a trip to the cinema.....not so much now. 😒

Regan

I'm an introvert. I really like the sitting-on-my-lounge-at-home experience. LOL.

Not much any more. It’s just unbelievably expensive. 2 tickets and snack for my wife and I could easily put us back 100 dollars. Now, if a movie grips us and is great, that’s fine. But we look at the crap that is being churned out over and over and say: meh. It ain’t worth it.

like, when was the last time we say ground breaking cinema like the first avatar? Titanic? Lord of the rings? Just to name a few. Those were things we never saw before. Now, it’s CGI for the sake of CGI. No good stories. Nothing ground breaking or original. We have 10 fast and furious movies though.

tel

Agreed, studios have forgotten how to make memorable movies now. You are right about CGI for the sake of it, to me it just amounts to lazy film making, I was really looking forward to Disclosure but i have seen so many negative comments i will give it a swerve

Gangi

I remember watching a movie about truman capote and, yes it was a dull movie, the main actor would stay in character everywhere he went. He would stay in character at dinner, and sitting in his trailer.

you didn’t see that level of commitment any more. It’s not an art. Its an industry that manufactures stuff to sell.

tel

Agreed, i watch a heck of a lot of movies, you might say cinema was my second passion but these days i'm happier at home with Netflix and a beer

Gangi

Not gonna lie. If I never watched a movie again, I wouldn’t feel like I missed a thing. I only watch movies on a rainy crappy day to pass time when we don’t feel like peeling off the couch.

tel

Yeah, i lean more towards the older classics but i still enjoy a good scare

I don't know if any of you use Letterboxd, but if you do, and/or you are interested in my viewing habits, here's the link to my profile: https://letterboxd.com/hfrgbevhuwfoges/

I've been a little hesitant to post it, but TwoInchBrush is the nicest community on the internet, and I am pretty sure there are at least a few of us with some overlapping taste in movies.

Gangi

I never heard of letterboxd until this weekend and now 2 people have referenced it. What is it?

dracula

Gangi It's a movie database where you can find films, log/rate movies you watch, keep track of movies you want to see, and, my favorite part, checking out stats of your viewing and preferences, which helps me find cool movies I might be interested in. I enjoy it. I guess it's sort of billed as a social platform, but there's no real way to communicate with anyone, though I do read a lot of user films reviews. Hope that helps!

Gangi

It certainly does. Thank you for the explanation. I will mention it to my wife. She’s a big TV/movie person. Me, not so much.

example: right now she is watching season 1 of law and order (dun dun) and I’m out side listening to jazz and sipping me a nice whiskey on a nice evening. It’s going to be cold here in NY soon enough so I want to be outside as much as possible while I still can.
