The TwoInchBrush.com community is growing, and so are the different types of originals uploaded. While most paintings still feature landscapes in some kind of way we're also seeing more and more uploads in other styles.

Some of these paintings are also exploring more explicit subjects. While I do not want to censor anyone or limit the types of uploads I also understand that some people do not feel comfortable with this kind of paintings.

To ensure that everyone feels welcomed and can enjoy TwoInchBrush.com in their own way there are a few things I'd like to say:

1. Tagging Explicit Paintings And When To Do So

As you already know we have the option to mark uploads as NSFW. Initially short for "Not Safe For Work" this was used in the early days of the internet to mark content that you better not open on your work computer.

I'd like to ask everyone to be considerate of other user's preferences and use this tag when uploading paintings that feature more explicit content.

What Counts As Explicit?

Glad you asked! All images containing nudity, sexually suggestive subjects, violence, or otherwise gory content should be tagged.

I understand that the definition for "sexually suggestive" varies greatly between different cultures, so I'd like to ask you to err on the side of caution and be rather strict when tagging your painting.
Imagine you're working in an office with a very puritan and strict boss having a direct view of your desktop. Everything you wouldn't want the boss to see should be tagged.

2. Going Too Far

As I said, I don't want to censor anybody, so members are free to upload whatever they like. However, if I personally think that uploaded paintings are beyond "good taste" I'll take the liberty to remove them. If you want to upload more extreme subjects be sure to include a good description of what makes the painting art and not e.g. pornography or gore for the sake of it. I'll be operating on a basis of "I know it when I see it".

3. Filtering Out NSFW Or Not Filtering It At All

Normally all NSFW tagged paintings are blurred until you visit the detail page or tap the little red "NSFW" badge on the newsfeed.

Since everyone got their own personal preference for how they'd like to view explicit paintings I've added the option to completely exclude paintings with an NSFW tag for registered users.
If you prefer to view all paintings unblurred you can also toggle that.

You can find the settings on your profile page under "Profile Settings":

I hope this is a good way to improve the experience for everyone on TwoInchBrush.com.
Let me know what you think! ๐Ÿ™‚

Hey Felix.A wonderfully composed guide to enrich everyone's experience here at Two Inch ..I personally thank you for your thoughts and for creating such a great place for artists to share their creations with other creative folk.I will do my part to follow the new guidelines.Cheers,P

A good and reasonable series of steps which will hopefully "protect" the sensibilities of some of the visitors to TIB.

Dear Felix, this is a wonderful and very thoughtful approach. As Tel says, itโ€™s a great way to be welcoming to everyone. I know many people use art as a form of meditation and escapism from difficulties they might be having and this could really help. For example, a soldier who has seen active duty may not want to accidentally come across an image depicting injury. Similarly a woman who has experienced sexual violence may not want to see explicit imagery. The way you have set it up will ensure that artistic freedom is protected whilst also being considerate of the viewer which is of equal importance. Thank you so much for being so thoughtful in your quest to create a welcoming site for everyone.

Felix, A very sensible approach to art, I believe everyone has the right to post what they do but also understand that some individuals would not necessarily want to view some more adult themed pieces, this is an extremely level headed approach and I commend you on your decision and thank you for your continued dedication to your site.

I have downloaded a painting that is marked NSFW. It is simple landscape painting I don't understand.
