I've recently begun oil painting after becoming inspired by Bob, and am having a wonderful time! However, I'm a little sketched out about using paint thinner, so I'm hoping to gain some insight to make sure I'm using it in a safe and responsible manner--I'd appreciate any input or tips you may have! I've painted 2 paintings with Bob so far using oils and odorless paint thinner, and the 2nd time the tip of my left middle finger became numb for about 72 hours. After reading online, it seemed to be likely caused by the paint thinner. Does anyone have any experience with this?
Also, I live in a 1-bedroom apartment, so I paint in my living room with the window open--is it OK to paint in a space like that?
Lastly, how long does thinner last? I currently have 2 small buckets with a metal screen in one to scrub the brushes on. I left the dirty thinner in a bucket for a week and then poured it off into the 2nd bucket, but it doesn't really look clean. When is it appropriate to dispose of? Is it still good when murky?
Obviously, I have some questions in this area, so I really appreciate the help!
