I like Claude Monet and Vincent Van Gogh. When you are in front of their masterpieces this is absolutely amazing! Another name is Gustav Klimt. His style is incredible.
Recently I fall in love with Alexei Savrasov and Ivan Shishkin but did not have an opportunity yet to see many of their works in real.
Modern impressionist I discovered just this week is Bato Dugarzjapov. I am impressed by what is online, but not sure if i can see it in real and where.
What are your favorite famous artists?

My favorite artists are Caspar David Friedrich and William Turner. I like also the works of Claude Monet. Other favorites are Alfred Kubin and Paul Klee. I also like several Comics artists like e.g. Kelley Jones or Don Lawrence. And I like dozens more
Felix Felix, thanks for sharing! I quite recently did abstract painting where I also examined chromatic blacks in a small area of 12 by 15 cm and gloss versus matte. I still have not finished that painting as I need to buy some special materials ( I don't know what they are yet) to finish that piece.
I think this topic is very enriching to see other artists works and learning new names even briefly!
Tom0779 Tom, I have never seen Alfred Kubin but he impressed me with his works! Thanks a lot for sharing!
Felix Felix, there is wonderful course in Coursera from Moma about modern art for free, you may be interested.
I am at week 4 now, but it is incredible what are the internal motivations of the modern artist are to create. I am sure I'll appreciate modern art more after the completing the course as I was always struggling with it.
Felix It is called "Modern Art & Ideas"

Sunnylady Recently I saw a few original paintings of an Austrian artist called Franz Sedlacek. Later on I googled his works and I like his style very much. his paintings have a touch of horror. I saw two originals, one of them was called "ghosts in a tree", the other was called "mountain landscape with car". (roughly translated from German to english) Both from the 1930s have really impressed me.

Wiki and internet do not give many photos of his works. But what I saw reminded me of the game "Imaginarium". There are things to think about in his paintings! I like it. But some of those are quite disturbing to make viewer to think about the life and priorities in it.
I think it would be a good thread to refresh before even going into the Event. Can I even replicate something of my favorite artists? It is a difficult choice between favorite artists works and idea to find something easy looking like famous Black Square by Malevich or maybe trying something totally unknown like abstract art.

Oooh good thread here. My favorites are James Gurney and Akiane Kramarik. Gurney did all the beautiful dinotopia illustrations and Akiane painted this gorgeous painting of Jesus. I never buy artwork but this was one thing i actually did order to hang in my house; its called "prince of peace."

Boof, I love this thread as we can learn about other artists from many other genres! I usually go and google every new name! Thanks for sharing links!
Hieronymous bosch, Netherlands....Not the kind of art that appeals to everybody and not the kind of art that is easily immitated but this guys imagination was amazing, perhaps his most famous piece is "The garden of earthly delights" a triptych of immense scale which depicts heaven and hell
Good... Glad you liked it Boof.
John Singer Sargent, Gustave Caillebotte, and Edmund Tarbell.

I remember as a child my class and I visited exhibitions of artists. And then I accidentally saw the painting "Permanent Memory" by Dali and immediately fell in love with all his works. Since then, Dali has been my favourite artist, I believe he is a genius and very much ahead of his time. Now I'm interested in other artists, I began to be interested in them. I accidentally stumbled upon this site Important Artists and surprisingly learned a lot of new information about Monet and Van Gogh. In general, it is exciting for me to read the biography of artists and learn something new about them.
Van gogh and Grant Wood. I loved the Van gogh museum in Amsterdam.
