Golden Rays of Sunshine

Caylakas 27 Oct 2022

I’m not sure how I feel about this one. I really like how the gesso underpainting came out. But the transparent oil color glazing just makes it look a little strange. I really did not like how the bushes looked using a squared off foam brush so I did the bushes with a natural sea sponge. I had a details with the liner brush and with a regular 1 inch brush just to provide some highlights. Also, Bob titled this golden rays of sunshine but only use titanium white on a phthalo blue background. There’s nothing golden about it! So, I used Phthalo Green for the background and Indian yellow for the sun. And then put a mixture of titanium white and liquid white at the center of that. That gave an overall more golden yellow sunlight look. it also mix nicely with the green to give a real sunlight through the forest sort of feel. Anyway, it was a good learning experience.

love the colors, that green is to die for!

Very nice!

So pretty! I like your colors and bushes much better than Bob's. That gesso work is incredible! And finally, I looooove how your sun pokes thru.
