A Trace of Spring

Ninoum 06 Apr 2023

NOT my best painting at all. I didnโ€™t put my usual layers of gesso on this one and it bit me in the booty big time. Lol!!! It made me struggled tons with the ripples of the river. This is the best I could come up with. Before you think about it, Iโ€™ll say itโ€ฆ the ripples are too linear, too parallel to one another. Still not happy with it but I will be able to sleep tonight. ๐Ÿ˜† I didnโ€™t want to give up because I knew I need to learn something here. Mission accomplished!

This is the painting featured this month in my BR calendar.

You are very talented! So you had an off day. It happens.

Thank you for picking me up Tomi! ๐Ÿ™ƒ Itโ€™s appreciated!

I can hear Bob right now, We don't make mistakes, we have happy accidents! It's a stunning painting, very pretty colours and composition. You're water looks alive,as are we,which means it can be changed if you want it to but to be honest, you don't need to, it looks watery!

Thank you Niv! I really appreciate that! ๐Ÿ˜Š That happy accident made me play a lot with my knife (using it in diff angles and pressure) Vs. how the paint behaves. It was very valuable time spent. Not 100% with it but it will come. Thx again!

Hey Beauty, I understand your quarrel but believe me many people would be happy to be able to paint like this and give everything for it. In this respect, perhaps not your best but still high level. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ˜ŽHappy Easter to you๐Ÿฃ

It's just another beautiful piece of art! Like Dirk said many people would be happy to paint one like this! So pretty and so many good details!

Thank you so very much my awesome friend! I expect so much out of my paintings and when I can't master a element, I feel a little deflated like a balloon. Tho Bob says he hope we are in continuous dissatisfaction with our paintings this way, we're always gonna strive to make the next ones better, masterpieces. I appreciate your words more than you know. Happy Easter to you as well. Mega hug to you! ๐Ÿค—

Thank you Sandy! ๐Ÿ˜Š I appreciate you taking the time to message me about this painting.

I always manage to get the result that I expect by retouching that area no matter how long it will take me. I tried more that you could imagine. Bob has us to do the ripples/movement of the water by doing the technique we do to highlights the mountains (paint "breaking"). By not apply my gesso layers first (lack of time), my paint would't break at all. Instead, the paint would show the grain of the canvas. I eliminated that issue recently by "gessoing" 2 layers my bare canvas. I will never skip that step ever again. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I agree with you... there are many good elements/details tho.

Moving water can be quite a challenge. I just did a painting to practice just this idea and it didn't really come out all that great. Look at all the great stuff in your painting and appreciate all you learned from it. We are our own worst critics. Beautiful painting!

Nice

Thank you Brian! I appreciate more than you know. I never have an issue wit moving water in the past. I think there a few things that I could have done here to make the river & ripples better. I should have made the water lighter color. this way it would have made the whole thing less contrasting. There is also the angle at which the river flows... 2 curves. But I did learn lots and like you said, there are also other great elements about this painting that I enjoy.

Thank you Cold. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Great work Nancy!

Very colorful one. Really well done!

Grazie Pietro!

Thanks Tom but I will have to redo this one at some point. Right now, I canโ€™t look at it. ๐Ÿ˜•

An eye popping beauty Nancy. Love the evergreens in this one. They have a great shape to them. Clouds in sky are excellent.
