The Old Oak Tree

Mata0031 04 Oct 2023

I was really looking forward to painting this one. It was my first black gesso painting. I like my grass and the path. I have a hard time with the leaves. Bob mentions not just throwing the branches in, but instead being thoughtful about where you place them. However, I still don’t quite get how to make them look like his. Sometimes the paint doesn’t seem like the right consistency on my brush and I’m also just not sure how to arrange the leaves. I’ll have to study his work a bit more and keep practicing. :)

Nice job. Practice is the key for sure.

You nailed your oak tree! Beautiful scene Mata. 😊

As far as making the leaves with the 1" or 2" brush, I still struggle with that technique even after doing over 200 of Bob's. This is a nice start though. I can see the brush pattern looking lacy in some areas. You'll get it right with more practice. Great work!
