Roadside Barn

Jeffth 04 Jan 2024

I had a good time with this one. I worked from the book version, which has some slight differences. Overall I'm happy with how it turned out, although there are still areas that bug me if I dwell on it. I think this is the first painting I've managed to finish in a single session (6hrs).

Hey Jeff, that's just great painted. Super background with beautiful depth and an excellent house/ barn .πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ

Thank you Dirk!

Very good Jeff. I know it’s not intentional, but the orange tree above the barn looks like an orange big kitty. Yah my mind works funny. ;). Overall I love it.

Awh kitty! Cute. My eye is pulled towards all the imperfections instead, haha.

Very good. Especially the barn

Thank you, Cold!

Good one Jeff.
Great texture on the old barn.

This is not one of my favorites from Bob. You made it much better! I like it.

Niicely done!

Great job!

Thank you Titia, I appreciate that. I enjoyed a more complex barn structure, but the perspective was tough.
Thanks Tomi, that means a lot!
Thank you Jin7 and Sandy!

Very nice painting!

Thanks Jos!

To be honest, the perspective feels a bit off to me.
The front lines of the barn, the ones going in the same direction of the top of the door, are going down while the horizon seems to be higher up, when looking at the distant shore with the trees. (if that makes sense. Hard to explain in words.)
Perspective is indeed tough, especially when making more complex building like this barn with its attached roof and shed

It is not actually bothering me.
I noticed it only after looking at it for a while, admiring the way you painted the whole scene.

Very eye candy Jeff! Love your colors. They are very realistic. I love everything about it.

I can see what Titia refers to, but being an old barn, things start to get crooked. Those overhangs will be the 1st elements of a building to start giving up. πŸ˜‰ It doesn't bother me either. It gives character.

Super job Jeff.

Quoting Nancy: "but being an old barn, things start to get crooked. Those overhangs will be the 1st elements of a building to start giving up. πŸ˜‰ It doesn't bother me either. It gives character."
Agreed. πŸ‘πŸΌ

Thank you for taking the time to give my work such a detailed examination Titia! I'm with you, the perspective is off. Personally it's the left side with the overhang that bothers my eye the most.
Thank you Nancy for the generous take on the barn, indeed it seems the foundation is sinking and the roof is sliding off! Now if I could just convey that it was done intentionally, rather than a 'happy accident' (it was absolutely an accident haha).
TItia, I wish there were a way for you to show me what you're talking about. I feel like that could benefit me greatly! I have a basic understanding of perspective, but where is my vanishing point in this one? Dead center? I've never been 100% clear on where the vanishing point is in ANY of Bob's work ha. I have much to learn.
