Shadow Pond

flippergirlpaints 13 Jan 2024

I did the black gesso underpainting, and then only used 1 color (premixed Bob's sap green + alizarin crimson) and white for the entire painting. I did the same thing on Hidden Creek, keeping that one more toward the reddish brown side. This one is more greenish brown. I love the effects of using the transparent color to create different value by just thinning it out. Adding white for the highlights really softens the color nicely.

For fun reference I will add the HIDDEN CREEK I painted in a thumbnail to compare the colors you can achieve with this fantastic "brown".

Just wow!!! I love the effect you have created with that greenish brown Pam! You brought this composition to another level. I can't stop looking at it. Hidden creek looks as spectacular. I am taking notes! 😁

Beautiful! Both of them really are top level Pam!

I love sap green brown also. This is beautiful.

Excellent job

This is beautiful!! I love everything about this especially the water.

Agree with all of the above comments. The monochrome amplifies the interest in this composition. Well done!
