11x14" - This time I read the directions and did put the black gesso in a swirl leaving the sun area white. But, I found that the yellow sky was too transparent and showed the black too much around the transitions - I wasn't happy. So I started covering all that with red and burnt sienna. This led me to different tonal choices than Bob. Finally the background was a muddy darkish brown red. Growing trees in front of that really helped fix it. Lastly, I added some slick black rocks to the bank. Having moments of detail and clarity in the foreground really seemed to help take the focus off what I thought was my problem areas. Really, why was I worried about the background? So that is how I recovered. Whew! What a 5.5 hrs! Extra Kuddos to Bob who did his in 25 min....
Love the colors in this one, you did a great job. I totally get the worry that you had, and the pressure to fix it (happens to me on pretty much every painting). I find that I enjoy painting my own compositions more than following Bob. The problem is that I am still quite new and it's very difficult for me to imagine a whole scene, I need to work on my imagination more, I think that is what is holding me back the most.
Beautiful end result!
Love the rich colours and the darker foreground.
The green reflection in the water gives a nice contrast
I love the atmosphere 🌫
