Just Before the Storm

RebeccaJ 12 Apr 2026

11x14 Oil on Canvas. Just Before the Storm is a lot of fun to paint. Its probably mid to easy difficulty. I found the palm trees to be a bit of a bravery test. I used my Bob Ross liquid black mixed in with the Prussian blue, black, and sap green mixture left over from blocking in the bottom wave area. It took about 2.5 hrs painting time, with 1/2 hr prep. I do plan to let it dry then go around the parts of the oval that bled with white gesso. So we're back to approx 3.5/4 hrs. I think my usual painting time seems to be between 4-5 hrs for this size alla prima wet-on-wet. Luckily, its not a contest with Bob, because I don't foresee a finished 25 min painting happening... (by me).
