A Walk in the Woods

Mahy 17 Dec 2019

My very first oil painting, and I made quite a few beginner's mistakes. First of all, I rushed it. It looks so simple and doable in 30 minutes, but an untrained person can easily need 3 to 4 hours to complete such a painting. To start, I used way too much liquid white, which resulted in mud mixing all the way. My basic tree shapes turned purple due to the blue sky underneath, and the highlights just added more mud. Also, I realised afterwards that my palette knife was much too hard, which didn't allow for gently creating a path.

Voy Kay Conqueror of Challenges

Dear Mahy, I also tried this one and it is indeed tricky at moments, although Bob makes this look so easy. Concerning the palette knife, I switched from a soft one to a hard one with 300% more success and ease to use. I guess everybody has a differnt hand and handling for paint tools. Success for future endeavourments!!
