Mountain Ridge Lake

TheBerg 17 Mar 2020

I love the way this turned out, it's probably my strongest technical work. Perhaps due to that fact, this is my favorite painting. I was originally drawn to Bob's paintings that contained vivid sunsets, but despite the lack of red and orange in this one, it's the one that's hanging in my office. I can think of a few minor changes I'd make with next attempt. I also struggled with the right edge of the grass a bit (below the right peak) but cut in some mountain color with the knife to give it a sharp edge and it worked beautifully imho. Also had trouble with mountain highlights but I'm convinced at this point my struggles with all of my mountains were due to lack of proper canvas priming.

I love this landscape, I think you got the warmth of the first spring grass very well here.
The right side of the mountain is super nice and you can see it is a cliff there. Great shadows!

There is article by Lightsnow that talks about the mountain highlights, I recommend to read it.
