I'm still having trouble making skinnybpine trees. I dont knowing it's my technique or too big of a brush (#6 fan). I use a smaller canvas than Bob which is why I think a #3 fan brush would help.

True! Smaller pine trees with a fan nr. 6 is a real though one. I use a 3 or even a 2 for that and it works well.
