Waves of Wonder

dknoben 15 Oct 2020

This is my third seascape and I had a really hard time. I like my cloud and sky, but the wave and rocks were very hard. I could not get the blending effect with my knife like Bob did, and I need a smaller liner brush for the wave details. Not my favorite.

Voy Kay Conqueror of Challenges

Personally, I did 11 seascapes so far but this one is waaaay out of my league.
You dared to take it on and your impressive cloud and the giant wave are sublime!!

Just like you, I like to paint my rock highlights with a liner brush. So much easier and somuch better result!

Seascapes are challenging if you're looking for realism. This is a damn fine effort for only your 3rd. Don't give up. 🎨🖌

I agree with Voy and Froggie, this is very good work! Seascapes are all about soft borders even during the storm, you add that roughness on the top with the foam.
Also one trick a learnt- do the eye of the wave with finger it softens the edge better than anything.

It is a wonderful job here. Sky is awesome. Even you are not quite happy about rock highlights it is good that they are not as light or bright which brings attention to the wave.

Half of the painting is sky which is absolutely beautiful so you're on to a winner already. Your rocks look fine to me, and you don't have to use the knife, brush painted rocks just have a smoother appearance and rocks are tend to be smooth by the waters edge anyway. Waves are hard but it's not that bad. I like the way it surges upward and no doubt falls away again. I also like that hint of light that appears to shine through between the rocks. Just a new brush then and on with the next one!

Thank you all for the kind words and encouragement
