Has such a hard time with the water. The brush kept picking up the green from underneath. Tips?

Brush Contamination Prevention Tip:
If you allow your painting to sit for a couple/few hours and dry a little bit will make a huge difference in how much pigment the brush will initially pick up.
If you allow your painting to dry entirely, then go back and re-wet it with a liquid-clear like medium this will prevent any of the previous paint from contaminating what your currently trying to put in or highlight. This is also an effective trick to use for clouds
