Horizons West

Jowers 28 Dec 2020

My attempt at Horizons West. Took up painting about a month ago and still have a lot to learn! I was happy with how this came out though. Looks brighter in person, had a hard time getting a good picture on my phone, may edit later with a better photo. 16x20

Love the colours, indeed you may be right about the photos quality, good lighting can make a lot of difference.
I love those trees, great bold and proud, stunning colours like looking at a geode, and those mountains really wonderful!

Thank you Mrs C! Like Bob says, if painting does nothing else for you it should make you happy.. and this painting made me happy

Happy trees, happy Jowers!

Great sky effect! I feel like the sun is just hiding behind the mountain there

Thanks Bob! It really lights up the room! I think i could have blended it a touch better. Not sure if i didnt have enough liquid white ot paint or both. I try to remember things Bob says while im painting like "dont work it to death" so i just moved on. I also realized that while Bob never really says it in any of the videos, he very deliberately chooses where his peaks are relative to the color in the sky. I think its the same school of thought as " you have to have dark to show the light and light to show the dark." So thats what i tried to do with the dark base color against the bright color of the sky.

Very attractive color hopping overall!
Will love to see more work from you!

Thank you Voy Kay! Isn't it fantastic to experience the joy of painting?
