Autumn Glory

Had some trouble blending my homemade liquid white, canvas was way too dry. I really like the colors!

Hi the problem of dry canvas might be the canvas itself. It just needs an extra coat of gesso.
What is proportion of your home made liquid white? I mean linseed oil to paint and paint thinner and how long did it take to finish.

If default canvas gesso is bad nothing will help as solvent/oil will be sinking in that gesso and will not allow proper blending.

It was 50/50 liquid white and linseed oil. I didn't know I had to use thinner too.. I used up so much liquid white doing it this way too. I've since bought the real stuff and it's amazing!

This one also took about 3 or 4 hours to finish!

Oil makes it quite thick, but with that concentration it also proves that canvas is a problem. With this amount of oil it should not have dried in 3-4 hours.

If you gesso additional layer and after it dries you can make your liquid white thinned with may be 10-15% of the thinner, it will make application easier and layer thinner. The paint will be flowing better.

Also titanium white is most used paint and you can buy it in huge tubes of 200 cc/ ml.

if you are in USA, i would recommend budget canvas from Hobby Lobby. Where you can buy 5 canvas of 16 by 20 inches for 10 USD ( when on promotion). They do not absorb paint and oil that crazy.
If you are outside of USA and have access to PINAX brand, they are quite cheap and also do not adsorb paint.

PINAX is triple primed.
