My 2nd Floral “study.” To practice, I’m using very cheap canvases to paint these. I think they’re a big reason the painting looks kind of drab.. “Floral Study 2.”

It's a good start and florals are harder to do than they look. When you paint over a very dark back ground the painting does darken down as it dries. When you feel it looks drab what you can do is add another layer of brighter highlights just here and there, then your original highlights become mid-tones.
