While the trees are still flat (still trying to get the hang of that fan brush), their shapes are getting better. But I thought the sky and clouds looked pretty cool with their pinkish glow. And I was happier with the shrubs at the bottom this time.

Alex_Ander - great sky an glow on the clouds. Nice worked on the distance with two layers of distant trees.

Many times new painters are afraid of dark. I strongly recommend to use to wipe space for the trees scrub in dark brown-purple-bluered green as shape of the tree in the wiped area and apply highlights on top of that color.
I read that you use linseed oil to dilute water color. This is what does not allow to control their shape because your background already too slippery. Thus wiping. For shape in use old bristles brush as layer need to be thin and some energy will be needed to scrub in.
After dark base is ready you can apply highlight with linseed oil mixed paint.

Sorry, few corrections- water color= water based oil colors.
Dark = mix of all those colors or just a couple of them.
Wiping= take a piece of old rag not paper towel and wipe to the canvas the shape of the tree.
Scrub in = apply thin layer of dark color mix with bristle brush. Use a lot of pressure.

And one more - for scrubbing in do not use linseed oil in that dark color otherwise you will get super slippery surface again that will not allow you to control highlights.

Good luck with your next painting adventures!
Don’t forget to read articles in here, people shared a lot of good advice there.

Thanks for the tips, Sunnylady. You're right. At the time, I wasn't grasping the dark part to show the light. I think I was just happy I could do what I did. Never been an artist.

Best wishes.

Totally hear you! I was the same just a year and half ago! Good luck with your painting path!

Thank you, Sunnylady. You've got some really nice paintings. Showed my wife one of a sailboat. We both liked it.

Thanks, I am still learning and every new painting I figure something out :)
