Original Creation

Black and white dog on black canvas

Barbara 16 Apr 2021

This is my first attempt at a 'traditional' painting. While he isn't perfect, I am quite happy with him. The hardest part was the hair and knowing when to stop because I could keep adjusting little bits on him forever.

Wow, he's great! Congratulations on your first attempt, I would never think that the first one could be so beautiful!

That's pretty close to perfect!

Thanks very much Anna and Felix. Very much appreciated. And thank you Felix for creating such a great web page and a place where people can show their work. It's fabulous.

SO!!!! Wonderful!

Thank you so much, Hado!

He is such a cute pup! Fantastic execution! Fur looks gorgeous! All your hard work paid off! Awesome painting.

Thanks very much, Sunnylady!

This is awesome. What great details. From the nose to the eye... the whiskers look natural.and of course all the fur texture. Amazing.

My word, I can actually hear it breathing!!

Incredible realism and what a tremendous effort composing this. You were right, at a certain moment, one has to stop adjusting. I had the same issue with my poppies!

Did you paint this from a picture or followed a tutorial?

Thanks for the kind words! But this page is only this nice because of all the wonderful members like you. You are the ones I have to thank!

Awesome!

Holy Moly Barbara, this is wonderful. Those eyes are great as well as the rest of him/her.

someday I hope to get into animals and hope I do as great as you did here. I want to pet him/her. So very real looking!!

Really beautiful! The detail is so realistic. Amazing.

The detail is soooooo amazing!

Thanks everyone for your lovely feedback. I really value it. Voy Kay, the painting is from a tutorial which you can find on YouTube (search for Dog on Black Canvas) or onlineartlessons.com. The website provides the photo and a template for the basic outline, which I used and which was a learning experience in itself as I had never transposed an image before let alone on to a black surface. I think the tutorial is free but the resource material, like the template, is for subscribers only.

Barbara, thank you so much for the youtube channel and website. So many tutorials to watch!!!
