This was a really good challenge! I've never painted horses or people before so I'm happy with how this turned out! This is painted from a picture of my cousin and her horse. It was a real bravery test and I'm kicking myself for doing it on a dollar store canvas...
My biggest beef is with how the mane and tail turned out. On the other hand, I am very pleased with my cousins hair, her jeans, and the face of her horse.
Thank you two inch brush!! This is I think maybe my 15th(?) oil painting ever. Never thought possible!

Also - I’ve been there with the dollar store canvas regret! I have a painting that is a dollar store canvas with 2 bad paintings underneath thick layers of gesso that my husband loves and insisted on hanging even though it’s a terrible canvas with bumps on it.
Thank you! Haha Lillikins when I first found canvases at the dollar store I was like a kid in a candy shop!! I always feel more relaxed when I paint on them because in the back of my mind its like "meh, if it looks weird the canvas was only a buck" lol. And then those paintings end up looking really good because i follow my heart more! And husbands are funny!! Mine did the same thing with this old piece of plywood i had painted on. I was going to throw it out but he insisted on having it! Silly men. My next painting will be for him but i'm doing it on a $25 canvas 🙈😅
If it helps to take the pressure off just remember - if it’s a total flop then you can just use gesso! A few layers of quality gesso and it’s as good as new.
