Camel’s Hump

Caylakas 06 Jan 2023

This is an actual mountain in Vermont, up near Burlington, as seen from the west looking east. I was trying to go for an early misty morning with a glowing sky and mist around the foothills. I tried to put some mist on the water but it doesn’t really read. Sort of hard to do that using the wet on wet technique. I probably would need to let the entire painting dry and then add the mist over the top of it. Anyway, has anyone ever seen this mountain? If so, does the painting capture it? I did this one for my sister who lives in that area and sees this mountain every day. I’m hoping she’s happy with it. But if not, I will put my next attempt here as well. By the way, this is oil on a 11 x 14 stretched canvas.

Great painting! I personally have never seen this mountain, but I have been to Vermont before and this certainly does fit into the landscape from that part of the country. I really like the tree on the left and the mist between the layers of hills.
