Valley Riverbend

Haven't done a painting in a few weeks. Got kind of stuck. I forced myself to give it a go today and this is the result. Some decent elements, but I tried a different technique for snow on the evergreens and I'm not entirely pleased with the result. I used the filbert brush to try and get the effect of snow piled on the branches. I think I'm on the right track but I've still got a way to go. The other thing I couldn't figure out was how to make the two foreground trees look like they were up on a little ledge. I tried a different color of snow but it just doesn't read right. 16 X 20, oils on stretched canvas.

Really quite beautiful! I think the attempt to make the foreground trees look like on a little ledge worked! Sky and Mountains are really nice!

Really love the perspective and composition on this one

Nice

Looking very good.
I also like how you made the snow on the evergreens. It makes them look heavy with snow, branches hanging down by the weight of the snow.
Is it a technique you found in a tutorial on youtube or something?

No, TitiaD, I’ve tried doing snow on branches with the fan brush but it doesn’t have the right shape. I just experimented with different types of brushes and decided the filbert was pretty close. I’ve still got some practice to do to get the angles right and the paint consistency correct. Thanks!

Very nice!

Love the way you did those evergreens Brian! Very nice painting.

Beautiful Brian! I love that creek/stream. It really makes that painting pop. ! The perspective and lay of the land are awesome. I love how you did your snow on your evergreens. This is an awesome compo! For someone that was stuck… you created a chef d’œuvre like we say in French! Great job friend!

Thanks, everyone! It's like Bob always said, if you're ever completely satisfied with a painting, it's probably time to hang up the paintbrush. That innate desire to want to improve is what keeps us painting, I think.
