Original Creation

Tarzan of the Apes

ChrisLAdams 18 Mar 2021

One of the most collectible books in the world is a First Edition Tarzan of the Apes, A. C. Mcclurg, with a very simple, 3-color jacket by Fred Arting. A Fine copy with Dust Jacket and you're talking $6k and up. I don't have one but used the cover for inspiration for this. In keeping with Fred Arting's piece, I left Tarzan in silhouette but beefed him up. Fred's Tarzan, to me, looks anemic. So I used more colors than Fred was allowed, and brought to bear everything I'd learned watching Bob Ross episodes on Netflix.

Honest is honest, I like thise version better, colours AND silhouette, then the original!

Cheetah always was my favourite though!

Hah! I should have put Tarzan's chimp friend in here. In the original books his name was Nkima. I've no idea why Hollywood revised the name to Cheeta. And thank you!

Guess H-wood had issues pronouncing Nkima correctly!
This is easier for Europeans and Africans, not sure about Asian folks.
