Mountain scene

Coldethel 02 Jan 2024

Really struggling with mountains these days. Maybe because they are 8x10 canvases. I donโ€™t know.

Very pretty Cold. I expect that the small canvas is your issue.

Great scene Coldethel!

I agree with Tomi. A bigger canvas gives your paint more opportunity to break.

Good Morning my friend. First of all, good work. I mainly paint on 9.45 x11.80 and I can say that makes it difficult to let the color break. I think you will have enough experience the only thing I can say is extremely thick dry paint for the mountain surface, push in and scrape out and, if necessary, take away the excess with the paper towel.. Sometimes it also helps. To wait another 20 minutes before you pull the snow over it ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ช

Thanks Dirk, I will try that. I did get new paint. Maybe it is oilier.I looked at my very first painting ever and those mountains looked better than what I have been doing.

Hey Cold, pack the color on several layers of newspaper pages or cardboard. That pulls the oil out.!At least 30 minutes, but can also stay on it longer, depending on how oily the color is. If the color is too dry, mix some fresh color until the consistency fits. I now use "Lukas ivory black" of Van Gogh ivory black. There is a drying accelerator from "schmincke ". Also helps๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ช

Thanks Dirk!

Good job, Painting on bigger canvas would definitely be easier for such scenes.

Very beautiful !

The smallest the canvas, the more challenging! You really did a wonderful job here!
