Tree practice

I hate doing evergreen trees, For whatever reason, they are really hard for me.

They look really good though.

Maybe the shape you go is a too wide if a triangle at the base? What if you try to grow some of them taller to create variety.

I can also recommend Painting with Yovette channel on YouTube as she gives really nice explanations specifically on the evergreens.

Don’t forget you may try flat brush or angular brush instead of fan and maybe they will work better for you. I would even suggest to try synthetic brushes as they maintain bristles shape better without going wild ( talking about flats/angulars).

Thanks everyone. I will check out some videos and experiment with different brushes. I try doing them like Bob not they never come out right. He makes it look easy, but It hasn’t clicked for me..

Same story for me with BR evergreens. I went to try with different artists and never came back to BR.

Cold, I am still having a hard time with Bob’s evergreen technique too. Once in a blue moon, they’ll come out perfect. The rest of the time, I don’t like my outcome. But you did a good job here. They look lush.

Thank you Sunnylady for the tip. I’ll check that YouTube channel!

Just found an evergreen video from Yovette:

I found that I have to spread the brush marks farther apart to get a decent tree. They look kind of silly initially, but, when I highlight they seem to fill in nicer. I also find that Bob's fan brush is too thick for the tree tops. I've found a #4 synthetic bristle works better for me. It's very thin and retains its shape well.
