Grandeur of Summer - First Painting

Flater 19 Jan 2021

After years of lurking, the wife decided to get me the Bob Ross set to get me started. This is my first attempt. Figured that Grandeur of Summer was the best place to get started.

Overall pretty happy, though I'm struggling to not focus on the little mistakes. Really happy with the clouds and general tree work. Messed up the water lines and the branches, couldn't get the paint to flow like Bob's.

Took between 3 and 4 hours to paint.

Struggled keeping the colors bright, probably some mudmixing due to a small pallette. Now I know why Bob wields a shield for a pallette. Used a ton of cad yellow (half a 35ml tube), but you wouldn't tell by looking at it.

Excited to try again next week!

Great first attempt! I always put too much focus on my mistakes at first (which is not bad because it helps me to learn from them), but after a few days I usually see the painting as a whole and I start to like it a bit more. You really need a BIG pallette for this, mine is quite huge and I still sometimes run out of room on it. Trees eat up a huge amount of cad yellow. But as Bob says, highlights on the trees is not a time to sting on paint. Happy painting 😉

Flater, please don't get discouraged and worry about mistakes. I am on my 3rd painting and having so much funnow. I started to try it on a 11x14 andwas discouraged until these great people told me the smallest to go oth the brushes we have is 16x20, I got the 18x24 canvases and what a difference!!!! It's fun now. I ended up scraping off that little one and painted a coffee scene for my Mom in acrylic and have put that first one out of my mind. I am glad to see you are excited to try again. Don't be upset and just have fun....we have to get use to this, LOL
