Original Creation

Dotted Circle

ForestVueGallery 08 Mar 2021

Per your request Toadi! I only needed a couple of rows to finish after abandoning for oils.
Now that I think about it these are a perfectionists nightmare 😂 as oil painting is a whole lot more forgiving. I painted these for a year before discovering oils exactly two years ago. 8x8

Is there a trick in getting the symmetry and distribution that even?

Wow, so unique!

Felix, I use a compass like instrument to create a series of increasingly larger circles from the center point. Then I mark off eight 45 degree sections with a protractor. Making sure these lines are exact is key. For larger canvases I break the sections down even further.
(I use a white automatic chalk pencil designed for sewing to draw on the acrylic covered canvas. After completion any residual chalk wipes off with water.)
The center dot must be exact center, then work outward. For the first row I always place first dots centered over top of two lines of a section, then center one between the first two and so on. It’s a matter of figuring how many dots will fit into a section leaving space for smaller dots between.
It actually becomes a bit of a puzzle figuring patterns and colors as I go along.

Thank you GunaM! You’ll never know for sure that it will make you crazy until you try it! 😅

Thanks Jay!

Whoa! I thought they were beads at first. That’s insane! How long did that take? It must take a lot of patience to get everything so perfect. The symmetry is really satisfying!

Wow! These mandalas are perfect! My hat is off before you!

Thank you for your kind words Sunnylady 😊

Lilikins, the idea of beads came to mind when I first saw photos of dot painting on rocks. It looked so beautiful I had to try it. I can’t say how many hours as I’d work on one over many days. When I do another I’ll try to keep track. It does require patience and time, but after figuring out the system and correct tools it isn’t difficult.

Thank you sooooo much for sharing!!!!! Amazing!!!!!! Sat here for a long time trying to figure a pattern out but decided there is no pattern to it...LOL How something as gorgeous as this comes out of a mind????? You are one talented person!!!! Creativity abounds!!! The colors together are wonderful!!! Can't say enough about how wowed, is that a word?, that I am by this!!!!!! I hope there are no grammar people here....hehehehe

Got any more to share? 😜

Thank you so much Toadi! I just pick out some colors that I think will work together and let come what may. I mix colors sometimes but it’s near impossible to mix up more of the same shade days later.
I’m happy that you’re “wowed” and I’ll post a few more. I worked on drawing lines on a canvas to create another and found I’m a bit rusty after 2 years. 😏

Voy Kay Conqueror of Challenges

My word, every central African and Australian aboriginal will hire you!
STUNNING creation and yes, such great effort, dedication, patience and zeal you deployed!

Thank you Voy! Maybe in the next life, I’m retired in this one 😀. It sounds like a great life though, all art all the time.
I never realized these would be such a hit.
