Original Creation

Mandala IV

ForestVueGallery 30 Apr 2021

This was painted during my procrastination period before beginning the Master Challenge 😂.
I did discover a fantastic acrylic paint to use for solid backgrounds. Turner Acryl Gouache. I can cover completely and evenly with two coats where standard acrylics were taking three. This paint looks tremendously better also and is easier to work with. 12x12 canvas.

Wow. I can only imagine how much patience it takes to paint this.

And I love the purple color.

OOOOOOHHHHHH, how pretty!!!! I just got some things today to get started on seeing how I do....EXCITED to even see if I can do this, been watching youtube things on this since you first showed me your beautiful things, you little instigator, LOLOLOL

Thank you Umagaan! I was pleased with the purple too. It does take patience, but with practice it gets easier.

Thank you Toadi, I’m thrilled you are going to try this! My advise is to start small. I was doing 4x4 or 5x5” on small canvases to start with. I’ll be happy to share more that I’ve discovered with much trial and error. I can’t recommend more highly the dotting tools I mentioned in a previous post. I tried two or three other types with less success before discovering them.
Have fun with your dippety dotting!!!! Look forward to seeing your creations.

Beautiful mandala! Great color choices!

oh shoot. got 8x8 canvases....lol I did get some little coaster size wood cutouts, I will start with them. My Mom will use them if they are terrible. She is also an enabler....hehehehehe Do you use Decoart Americana paint? I watched several videos that did, so I got those little cheap paints, at least for starters

The coaster size should work well.
Yes, I’ve found the Decoart Americana to be the best consistency for dipping. Usually not too thick or too thin. I recently started using paint pots which has really made things easier to keep paint from day to day and easier dipping:

I like the Americana metallics also to add some shimmer.
Have fun! 😀

Thank you Sunnylady 😊

ok ForestVueGallery....I got fed up using home-made tools...SOOOOOOOOOO, bit the bullet and ordered those dotting tools you suggested and some stencils to make the lines....It's really fun but I have a very long way to go to get them to look right

Toadi, I went through the same painful process when I started. The biggest challenge after finally finding the best tools was getting the drawing perfect. I tried the stencils without success (I have a drawer full of the tried and failed stuff😂). The problem with stencils are the cut out sections where you run your chalk pencil are too wide so I could never get dead center on the angle lines. I’ll post pics of the Circle Radius Master (Amazon) and Circle Marking Template (Ebay) that I use.
