I decided to try a Kevin Hill as it focused on painting oil over acrylic. This technique I will definitely use more in the future. I’ve found the Kevin Hill brushes to be some of the best out of the many I’ve tried.

Hi agree 100% with your comments except for the brushes, I just got my order delivered on past Friday, cant wait to use them.

what brand of paints do you use

Just gorgeous! Love Kevin Hill..

BStone, did you get Keven Hill brushes? His liner brush is outstanding, hope you enjoy them. I used Liquitex Heavy Body Acrylic and Gamblin 1980 Oils.

Thank you PB! It was hard to photograph. There are some blue and pink flowers in the lower left that look colorless here. This was my first Kevin Hill and the tutorial was quite helpful.

Lovely scene! You did amazing painting! Great work with depth and creation of the mist!

Beautiful mist and nice soft colors!

Thank you Sunnylady, it's good to hear from you! I haven't been on the site much in recent months. This was a good exercise in mist which wasn't too difficult with oil. I did have to rework it some to find a subtle transition from the yellow shade to light.

Thank you FGP, it was the softness of color that drew me to try this one.

Those are my fav type of paintings. You did an amazing job! Love it!

This is great. Love how the light is peaking through the trees.

Thanks Ninoum! I haven’t attempted mist much in the past with oils. The oil over acrylic made it easier.

Hypercycloid, thank you. This was also an exercise in highlights and they do make the painting come alive.

Fantastic contrast and atmosphere.. really well done great job

Thanks so much David.

Yes i received the Kevin Hill brushes and next painting of his Italian Village will put them to use.

FVG... FYI on Jan 31 6pmEST on youtube visit kevinoilpainting for a free live demonstration

Thanks B, I’ll check it out. The liner brush is my absolute favorite with oil or acrylic.

Hi FGV, got the kevin hill brushes. all but 2 are very good, the one and two inch brushes are like straw, not pleasant to work with. Hairs sticking out all over the place.

Ben, the liner brush is the best I've ever used. Give those one and two inch brushes a chance. I remember thinking they were sub par with the Ross brushes because they are so light in weight, but found that they did an excellent job on the sky so I saved them for that purpose so they would last longer. I've used and cleaned them with Gamsol many times and they have held up.
I never had hairs sticking out all over the place, so I'm wondering if you got a bad batch? Might be worth following up with Hill if so. You could try conditioning them with some baby oil. I use it with my oil brushes sometimes to draw all the oil out and it works well, then rinse in the gamsol. Sorry you're having problems.

thanks for the update will give it a try
