Moonlit Owl

ForestVueGallery 23 Oct 2021

I found inspiration for this when I ran across an Abraham Hunter painting. This is my first attempt at anything like this and it turned out ok. Next time I’ll try some fur brushes on the feathers. 14x18 Gamblin oils.

Looks really good! I love the moon and the fir needles too!

Love the owl’s expression. Beautiful painting.

Thank you PB! I had not painted close up needles before, but I liked the liner brush detail work involved.

Thank you HI! This is one of a very few faces I’ve painted, human or otherwise, and it amazes me to see the life that’s added by applying the tiny reflections on the eyes. The owl suddenly began to look back at me!

Great painting! It is true about the eyes like that. Super moon also!

Thank you FGP for your thoughts!
I’ve been awakened many a night this year by owls on the roof, usually when the Moon is bright. Nothing like the sound of their scratchy claws scraping down the metal roof. 😖
