Mountain Sunset

ForestVueGallery 27 Jan 2023

This was inspired by a Kevin Hill. I find acrylic skies more of a chore compared with oils, but did enjoy painting the pines. I experimented with some Golden fluid acrylics and found I prefer them over heavy body for ease of mixing and dispensing.

Beautiful Debbie. Love the highlighting on the clouds.

Very Impressive sky . Super light !😎👍🏼

Very good work all around. Skies are more complex with acrylics than with oils. But your sky turned out beautiful.

Love the color contrast of the colorful sky and the earthy dark ones of the mountains & foreground. Very nice subtle highlights on those tall beautiful evergreens.

So Pretty - I agree about great contrast from the sky to the foreground trees! Nice distance with the hills. I agree that acrylics are waaaay harder to blend out than oils, but you did a great job!

Thank you TonyM. I wondered if I'd done enough or too much highlighting there.

Thanks Dirk. The Cad Yellow Light and Yellow Ochre lit it right up.

Thanks Tom. I spent too much time on it and ended up using a thin white wash to bring the colors down a bit. It stands out on the wall, so I'm happy with it!

Thanks Ninoum. That color contrast is what drew me to paint this one. Thanks for noticing the highlights on the pines as I did try to get that right!

Thanks FGP! I can't seem to paint fast enough to get much blending done before it dries. It was fun to try something new.

Thanks for the Info Debbie , Really very cool . Respect for painting this in Acryl .

Have you ever try a Special Medium to let the Acryl dry not so fast ? Sometimes. I use one for Oil but to let it dry faster and its very fast . (Schmincke Medium de Harlem ) Specialy for Mountain underground

Dirk, I’ve not tried a slow dry medium, but that sounds like a very good idea for skies. Thanks
