Painted Mountains

This is my result of another Chuck Black tutorial. There are several things I’d change if I were to paint it again, but I continue to learn more about paint and color mixing.
Chuck paints with Michael Harding oils currently, and showed the difference between the same formula of MH and Gamblin orange. I can’t unsee it, so I’ve ordered some MH and Blue Ridge Oil Colors to try.

Working on this over a period of several days, I stored my pallet paper in a Masterson paint container in the deep freeze when not using. It worked very well to keep the paint moist, and any container with an airtight lid will work.

This is a 12 x 16 Centurion LX Linen painting panel with Gamblin oils, and I found it a nice surface to work with. In preparation I brushed on a thin coat of Burnt Sienna thinned with Gamsol.

In searching for oil paint I ran across Michael Harding non absorbent acrylic primer. I’ve noticed many times my oils sinking into the gesso surfaces, even with Burnt Sienna acrylic mixed into the gesso as recommend by some. This product hopefully will stop that. I’ll report back on the results.

Can you tell about orange more? We’re it different pigment numbers between two brands?

Thanks for sharing your process! I will be waiting to hear about gesso.

I certainly can see that colors are complex here! Great job on learning process! And great painting!

Sunnylady, they are both Cadmium Orange, pigment PO20. He stated that and I just looked them up. This MH Primer acrylic resin is a bit thicker than gesso, so I sprayed the canvas with water (it says first coat can be diluted up to 25% to increase flow) then applied it with a makeup sponge which worked very well. The recommended second coat I sprayed very lightly with water before applying. I've applied it to a stretched canvas with a light sanding and no extra coat of standard gesso beforehand so will see how that goes.
Thanks for your kind words!

Very beautiful!

Thank you Sandy!

This is fantastic! I Love your colors and texture. I have watched Chuck Black, and I love that this has your own style.

Very nicely done :) what would you say is different from approach and style to that of Kevin Hill, Ross, Alexander or others?
