Red Rock

ForestVueGallery 24 Jan 2022

This is another Yarnell study. I was drawn to try this as I love Sedona. The lesson for me was capturing the shadows and highlights in this massive amount of rock, and I spent many hours at it. 18x24 canvas.

Just gorgeous! Rocks came out so realistic!

Awesome Debbie! The rocks are incredible.

Nice one, happy I am not a mountain climber there or ...

Voy Kay Conqueror of Challenges

So recognizable! Wonderful job you did there Becky, those rocks are fabulous!

Do you reside in Arizona?

Very beautiful painting! Rocks are gorgeous. I can see a lot of hard work and dedication in here. Nice light condition as well.

Thank you all for your kind words about the rocks! I spent way too much time, but that's what it required.
Voy, I've vacationed in Sedona many times but I don't think I would want to live there with the summer heat. I'll stick to the Smokies!
Sunnylady, the lesson in color values to create the illusion of depth was a worthy lesson. With the many hours it will be a while before I attempt another red rock formation.

Wow ForestVue! Another stunning painting and in acrylic nonetheless! Nice Job! I spend a lot more time on an acrylic painting compared to Bob's technique in oil! Looking forward to more of your work!

Thank you KJ, I’m a little surprised myself that the acrylics have worked so well. I had no interest in them but felt the Jerry Yarnell school would benefit in other ways. Like you I find it much more time consuming but it has the benefit of drying quick and no dangerous vapors.

Thank you GunaM. It was definitely a challenge and about a quarter of the way through I wondered what I'd gotten myself into. It's on the wall now and when the light hits it just right in mid late afternoon I'm pleased with the effort.

Really beautiful Debbie. I really am impressed with your work. When I saw this even though it’s a different location it immediately reminded me of the “Garden of the gods” in Colorado. Really great work. Beautiful:)

Thank you very much Happyisland. It was one of the most time consuming to bring shape to so many rocks, but it was worth the effort!

Beatyful Rocks ,fantastic shape !

Thanks Dirk, I spent many hours on those rocks!
