This is another one off of the 10 disk set of 1 hour videos. It is called “summer reflections” but I felt after trying Grandeur of Summer, a change of pace would be nice.
I omitted the big tree he puts in his version. I am on a 16 x 20 I feel things get a little more crowded pretty quickly as compared to a 18x24.
I still seem to struggle with foreground bushes. The first one hits the canvas just right and then it’s like the rest just go south there after. Le sigh.
So my second painting is under my belt. Time to keep chugging along.
Thanks tel. I am trying to vary my colors. I take some yellow with a touch of ochre, mic on the brush and gentle tap. I then grab Indian yellow and throw some bright red and somehow, it looks like ochre. And then no matter what I miss, it all seems to turn to a similar color. Can’t tell where one ends and the other begins.
Either way, at least I know what to work on before my thirds painting. Thanks for the tips. Very kind of you.
This is a really nice composition. Good advice from tel. Also you might be building up too much paint on your brush between bushes, you can dry clean your brush to avoid that, just drag your bristles a few times over lint-free paper before loading with your next colour, I think you will notice a difference. I changed from 18x24 to 12x16 and the transition came easy. For the first few you do after downsizing it helps if you visualise where things go before you start. Top third for distance, middle third for midground and bottom third for foreground, and think about that while you are working. After the first one or two it becomes automatic. I also retired the two inch brush and the large knife. Hope some of that helps.
Welcome Steve! For a new painter you are doing well. Enjoy the process of creating and learning. I am fairly new and still work at improving bushes and trees - each painting increases skills and that is much of the fun! Excellent tips from Terry and Helen, spot on.

Hi Steven, your bushes need more seperation this can be achieved by slightly adjusting the tone between each bush and try not to cover up all the underpainting....Nice!
