On the other side of halfway done with the 1 hour box set of Bob Ross the Boss. This one he called (or someone called) Times Past.
The original painting had a cabin/barn. And we all know how much I don’t like people in my paintings. So I replaced it with the next big thing I can think of: a boulder.
My lesson learned here is, if a boulder looks good, touching it more doesn’t make it look better. I’m starting to see a pattern of less is more in this technique. Consider it noted.
For the infamous bushes, I put as few as I could leaving as much under color as possible. I am not making that mistake again. Maybe I did. But not intentional.
Also left out the huge tree he puts in the original on the left side. My canvas if smaller than his and I think it would have just gotten too crowded. I will try this again soon on an 18x24. The few extra inches will certainly help. ::snicker ::
Have a splendid weekend. If the weather round here looks to be crappy on Sunday, I may venture for my first black canvas. Stay tuned.
Very nice scene!
An appealing interpretation. You are progressing well! Interesting to see you work your way through the challenges in your own way! You are doing great. I am often challenged by the 'less is more' and now try to be detailed only on focus items. Since the boulder is a focus item, I agree with adding detail, but it sure takes practice to avoid making it look 'busy' vs 'detailed'. Kind of like 'muddy' vs 'colorful'. Keep painting!
Great lil happy trees their Gangi! Love the colors in this one! Cheers,P
Thanks everyone. One thing I also did today and pay attention to my strokes and angles. And I think the pine trees show more structure than before where I just threw the corner of the fan brush against the canvas.
I guess apply paint with purpose.
Beautiful painting Gangi, the trees look great. I never really cared for the way Bob attacks the canvas when doing trees, i know he only has 27 minutes to complete a canvas but i always felt a little more care and attention to detail was in order with his trees

Oh and I paid extra attention to my evergreens so that the limbs didn’t come out slanted like the last painting.
