Old tree at days end

Hammipaints 22 Aug 2022

I painted this one just today and I am not sure if I am satisfied. Something that regularly get's me slightly frustrated is how my big, leafy trees turn out. Though I feel I am making progress I'd appreciate some feedback and advice from my fellow painters!

Check this couple of links below. I assume you are after more realistic style meaning BR is good though but not sufficient.

What is this painted on, love the texture! Also I really don't see anything wrong with your trees. Great Painting!

Thanks Sunnylady for the links, I'll have a look at those!

And thanks jim! It's painted on a cotton canvas (280g/m) I stretched and primed myself. I think the texture in the picture is simply due to the camera resolution. Looked more clear in my phones gallery

I did not realize it was acrylics! Awesome job to harness this medium! I failed in attempts to adjust it to BR style. Thanks God my husband convinced me to switch to oils.

I read your profile and I see you are the fun of BR, so I am not sure if you will like to change anything after watching those links. But anyway it will not hurt to get alternative view on the tree painting process as generic principle is the same no matter the medium. I would even suggest to try to do few trees as you look out of your window in 6B pencil by varying pressure you can achieve full value scale and also will be helpful in terms of teaching the eyes and the brain to see things. Saying this from my own experience as I realize that very often I paint subjects as I think they are but not as they actually are.

Thanks again!
I see it the same way: No harm in broadening the horizon. Thanks for the suggestion! I'll definitely keep that in mind

Hammi, one more link for you. Thank you for asking the question about trees, it led me to revisit what I learnt and almost managed to forget. Endless learning is a hard work, but it so worth it!
